Playground Roundup #1

I knew it
I knew it

We claim to know who is moving up in the rungs of fame; what they do, where they do it, and why, long before most Americans even know their name. Yes, we go to some parties. Not too many. We get our pictures taken. Not too often. So why do we know this? And why do we care?

First, on why we know. Two words: ANDY and attention given on Fame Game. ANDY is our algorithm (an homage to Andy Warhol) that automatically tracks news and editorial mentions, event photography, search trends, and other online and offline sources. Attention accounts for the traffic that profiles get on FameGame.com, i.e. who is looking at whose profile, for how long, and why. Why we care: Fame is a commodity. We not only want to keep score by quantifying it, but we also want to create a market for interesting ideas and a means for emerging talent to play in this market.

The Playground Roundup will use these two sources to draw attention to people, parties, projects, and photos that are movin’ and shakin’ on Fame Game and in the real world. We already post a weekly Movers and Shakers list on the site for the top 3,000 people in our system, but this is a way to learn about the interesting projects, photographs, people, and parties that might not yet be in the top 3,000. Plus, as an added bonus, we will start to release some direct data (lists) on who/what is getting the most page view attention from our user base. Now, for our first attempt (after the jump! go blogs!)

This past week, there was quite the pandemonium around the opening of the MGM Grand at Foxwood’s Casino. We got some pictures of the event courtesy of our friends at GuestofaGuest and can’t help but fall in love with (and perhaps fall over from laughter at) Lisa D’Amato who seemed to be just as crazy in real life as she was on ANTM. She is certainly headed for future fame, in what manner is still to be determined. We also got a kick out of coverage of The Donald from a recent press conference announcing his involvement in Affliction Banned, a MMA fight between Russian fighter Fedor Emalianenko and Tim Sylvia –– Trump looks uncharacteristically uncomfortable sandwiched between larger-than-life photos of these masters of martial arts.

Last Saturday marked the third event hosted by our friends at LWALA, a charity organization supporting grass roots projects in Africa. Despite some negative press that came forth after this event, we thought the organizers did a wonderful job promoting an art auction for 30 up and coming talented artists. We particularly liked these pieces by newcomers Amanda Dolan and Bronx-native Jessica Perilla.

Central Park was ablaze with events this week, no doubt having planned ahead for the warm weather. Tuesday night the Wildlife Conservation Society hosted an India-themed event at the Central Park Zoo. We didn’t go but sources say there were some fun times being had late night at the event involving seals, Vodka-infused cocktails, and a whole lot of half-drunken twenty-somethings. Next year. Wednesday night the earlier and better-behaved crowd made their way to the Bandshell for the Taste of Summer event hosted by Dolly Lenz and sponsored by Miraval and Living Condominium. Fame Game friend and photographer Alex Marvar captured some great shots here.

Next on the party radar? Some upcoming events that look interesting over the next few weeks include the Tanqueray sponsored dinner with Susan Shin and Tatiana Platt, the Young New Yorkers Summer Soiree hosted by Tiffany and Co, and the always hyped-up Whitney Art Party on June 17th.
